About

Being And Doing

Times are economically, politically, and environmentally uncertain right now, and there are questions of blame and punishment lingering in the air. However, in order to recover from our precarious position, we need to focus our energy on the already-present solutions rather than the mounting problems.

Who is not to blame and how can we encourage them?

Let the pundits and economic forecasters debate whether our problems were caused by mammoth for-profit corporations, shaky political persuasions, or insecure financial institutions. We at Being And Doing, Inc. feel that our energy is better spent promoting the work of nonprofit and community-based organizations that measure success by their ability to help and serve rather than their profitability. We believe that it is time to pay attention to the people who have been doing it right all along.

Being And Doing, Inc. is a mobile nonprofit group out of Lakewood, OH that promotes the ideals and goals of the extensive nonprofit sector (tax-exempt organizations, community groups, and individuals who work for a purpose rather than a paycheck). Our means of doing so is simple: hop in a van, volunteer with different environmental and social justice nonprofit groups across the country, and tell their stories online.

Our goal is to develop a familial environment amongst charitable nonprofit organizations because they are all dedicated to GOOD work, regardless of what form that work takes. All too often, nonprofit organizations are forced to oppose one another for funding and resources. This method of competition is unnecessary, and Being And Doing, Inc. holds that GOOD work can develop much faster and more efficiently if the nonprofit sector were to work as one.

While everyone’s top priority right now is to make a change, we need to acknowledge what can, and should, remain the same.

Currently, we are funded by friends and family of Being And Doing, Inc. We are in the process of applying for our 501(c)3 status with the IRS. You are parked across the street from my house, spending time with my son Atticus, so I decided I would check out your website.

WOW! What the three of you are doing is so inspiring! I applaud your compassion. As our country has spent recent years encouraging wealth and greed and self-interest, it gives my generation such hope for the future that there are young people like you actively working toward serving others. Thank you. Thank you for your work. Thank you for inspiring others to share in your work.

I will follow you on your journey via your blog. Thank you for taking Imma to Boston. I hope you enjoy the cookies I’ve sent along with her.

    Happy Trails,
    Molly Thompson

Thank you for your encouragement!! And it’s always exciting to know that people respond to our big mobile billboard (our van) and check out our site.

Things worked out perfectly with Imma; the stars really aligned on that one. And thank you so much for the cookies, they gave us the boost we needed to make the drive!

Truly this life has proven unpredictable and exhilarating. I am so proud of you all. Just a few months ago you were trapped in the quicksand of everyday life and before you knew it, an idea and a few scraps of paper turned into a painted van full of selflessness hitting the road and venturing towards the benefit of others.

You all have an uncommon gift to genuinely enjoy life as it confronts you. Continue to spread that loving optimism you so easily embody…and allow me to contribute my sport of cheers as you do.

I miss the late night laughs and the impromptu, unforgettable adventures. As always, you remain in my thoughts and I look forward to seeing you in a time not yet designated and a place not yet planned. Whatever may come and where ever you go, know that your cause is that of one truly worth doing and that you have the support of people who acknowledge the importance of caring.

    Your Friend,
    Freddie
